Empowering Local Energy Communities: putting citizens at the centre of the energy transition

Rooted in history and thriving in the age of renewable energy, local energy communities are a powerful catalyst for advancing the transition to a green and clean energy system that puts citizens first. These initiatives not only facilitate community access to renewable energy, but also serve as a cornerstone for job creation, local economic development, and the promotion of inclusive participation models that ensure support for vulnerable groups.

The adaptability of the local energy community model to the specific needs of its members is a testament to its versatility. However, the widespread adoption of energy communities may face challenges on several fronts, including economic viability, legal considerations, and navigating societal perceptions.

“Empowering Local Energy Communities: Putting Citizens at the Centre of the Energy Transition” will bring together advocates of energy communities, policymakers  and representatives of the social economy sector. Together, we will explore the myriad opportunities and obstacles associated with this innovative tool, and seek to unlock the full potential of local energy communities in ushering in a sustainable and citizen-centred energy future.
