EU Global Gateway Launch of the global Team Europe Initiative on Deforestation-free Value Chains

The EU and its Member States are launching a global Team Europe Initiative on Deforestation-free Value Chains at the Spain’s Pavilion at COP 28. The cooperation side of this global TEI includes the Sustainable Agriculture for Forest Ecosystems (SAFE) project, which is currently being implemented in Brazil, Ecuador, Indonesia and Zambia, with two additional country components to be launched in Vietnam and DRC. In addition, the European Commission is setting up a Technical Facility on Deforestation-free Value Chains, which will be a flexible and on-demand mechanism to assist partner countries with technical expertise on requirements such as geo-localization, land-use mapping, and traceability systems. At launch, the TEI will establish a Team Europe Hub for Deforestation-free Value Chains, which will provide information to partner countries, as well as knowledge management and coordination of pre-existing and upcoming EU and Member States projects on forests and deforestation-free value chains.

Objectives:

Launch of the global Team Europe Initiative on Deforestation-Free Value Chains and reaffirming the joint commitment of the EU and its Member States to support partner countries and producers to enable deforestation-free value chains through inclusive partnerships in a Team Europe approach.
